Budget started life as Budget Rent A Car in 1950s America. A chap called Morris Mirkin got the company going with a $10,000 investment. The company takes on a few different guises in a few different cities in the USA in the proceeding years, then takes to the international stage. Fast forward to 1997 and Budget is bought by Team Rental Group, Budget’s largest U.S. franchisee, and changes its name to Budget Group, Inc. The Budget business model was rolled out across Australia in 1965. The Australia branch keeps a fleet of over 160,000 rental vehicles, available to hire from 200 locations and another 60 housed in handy airport terminals.
